New Zealand's Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra Out for India ODIs
Injuries to Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra force New Zealand to adjust their squad ahead of the ODI series against India.

New Zealand's cricket team has received disappointing news ahead of their upcoming five-match One Day International (ODI) series against India. Both Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra have been ruled out due to injuries. Mark Chapman is currently recovering from a hamstring injury and is expected to need at least two more weeks for rehabilitation. Rachin Ravindra is also sidelined as he is dealing with a shoulder injury, which has prompted team officials to prioritise his recovery ahead of a crucial two-match ICC World Test Championship series against India later this month.

Chapman and Ravindra's absence opens the door for batter-keeper Tim Seifert, who will participate in all five matches of the ODI series. Additionally, Henry Nicholls will join the squad for the first three games, while Dean Foxcroft has been brought in for the final two matches.

New Zealand coach Rob Walter commented on the situation, expressing his disappointment over the loss of both players but maintaining optimism about the team's capacity to adapt. Walter stated, “Everyone knows what an asset Mark and Rachin are to this side, so it’s a shame they have to miss this series.” He further noted, “I caught up with Mark last week and although he’s disappointed, he’s working hard to get back on the field.”

On Ravindra's condition, Walter added, “His shoulder hasn’t quite recovered to a position where he could field comfortably in white-ball cricket. With the Test series later this month, we don’t want to take any undue risks.”

The New Zealand squad for the first three ODIs comprises: Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, and Will Young. For the fourth and fifth ODIs, the squad will include: Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Kristian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Lockie Ferguson, Mitch Hay, Nick Kelly, Tim Seifert, Blair Tickner, and Will Young.

The series against India is set to begin on November 4, with matches scheduled in various locations across New Zealand. The upcoming fixtures are as follows: First ODI in Auckland on November 4, Second ODI in Wellington on November 7, Third ODI in Hamilton on November 10, Fourth ODI in Mount Maunganui on November 13, and the Fifth ODI also in Mount Maunganui on November 15.
