Legacy of Dharmendra Lives On with His Last Film 'Ikkis'
Bollywood icon Dharmendra, affectionately known as the âHe-Manâ of Indian cinema, has left an indelible mark on the industry with his passing at the age of 89. His enduring legacy is encapsulated in his final film, âIkkisâ, which is set to be released on December 25, 2025. Just hours before the news of his death broke, the filmâs producers unveiled a striking poster featuring the late actor at its centre, a poignant reminder of his charm and charisma that captivated audiences for decades.
Fan Frenzy During 'Ikkis' Shoot
Aroon Singh Dicky, the line producer for the Lucknow schedule of âIkkisâ, shared insights into the extraordinary fan reactions during the filming. He noted that the presence of Dharmendra turned each scene into a celebration, with fans demonstrating their adoration in ways that were both touching and fervent.
âPeople, including elderly women, were kissing the chair he sat on and collecting mud from his footprints to apply to their foreheads,â Dicky remarked. âFrom my experience in line production, I have never witnessed such an overwhelming fan following.â
Dharmendra portrays Brigadier ML Khetrapal, the father of PVC Second Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal, played by Agastya Nanda. The film was shot at notable locations in Lucknow, including Qaiserbagh and Lalbagh, and attracted large crowds, often causing traffic disruptions as fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the beloved actor.

Reflecting on his experiences while working with Dharmendra, Aroon Singh Dicky described the actor's humility. âHe was so approachable, often engaging in conversation with everyone around him,â he said. Dicky expressed that working with Dharmendra was more than just a job; it was a dream come true. âHe gives so many blessings that you feel overwhelmed. There wonât be another superstar like him,â he added.

Dharmendraâs last rites were conducted on November 24 at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai. The event was attended by numerous prominent personalities from the film industry, including Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan, all of whom came to pay their respects. Fans, friends, and family members gathered to bid farewell to the beloved star, underscoring his impact both on-screen and off.

In âIkkisâ, directed by Sriram Raghavan, Dharmendraâs portrayal of Brigadier Khetrapal adds depth to the narrative of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal, Indiaâs youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, who died at the age of 21 during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. The film is co-written by Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, and Pooja Ladha Surti, and also features Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikander Kher in supporting roles.
