Keerthy Suresh Raises Concerns Over AI-Morphed Images and Privacy
Indian actress Keerthy Suresh has voiced her distress regarding the emergence of artificial intelligence-generated images of herself circulating on social media. At a recent press conference in Chennai, she expressed the emotional burden of encountering manipulated images, stressing that this issue is rapidly becoming a significant concern for both public figures and everyday individuals.
Keerthy Suresh stated, "AI has become a huge issue. It has turned into a boon and a bane. Humans invented technology but we are losing control. On social media, I get stunned seeing my picture in a suggestive outfit and I wonder if I ever wore it as it is that real. Recently, the outfit I wore for a movie puja was altered in a bad way, from a different angle. For a second, I was wondering, and then I realised that I didn't pose in such a way. It is definitely irritating. It is definitely hurting." Her remarks highlight the disturbing reality of AI's capabilities in creating convincing but entirely fictitious representations of individuals.
The actress's experience is not isolated; it reflects a broader anxiety regarding the misuse of AI technologies. Keerthy noted that the troubling implications of such advancements extend beyond the film industry, affecting anyone who shares their images on digital platforms. The manipulation of personal images without consent raises critical questions about privacy and individual rights.
Actress Andrea Jeremiah also addressed the implications of AI misuse, indicating that the challenges posed by this technology are not limited to celebrities. She remarked, "Not just actors, even for the public, AI is becoming a problem. AI should work for us and not the other way round." The discussion surrounding the ethical use of AI has intensified, with many calling for stronger safeguards to protect personal identities online.
Keerthy Suresh's comments come at a time when the film industry is grappling with the repercussions of such technology. Her upcoming film, 'Revolver Rita', directed by JK. Chandru, is set for release on 28 November 2025. Despite the challenges posed by AI, she continues to be active in her career, recently collaborating with Vijay Devarakonda on another project.
In addition to her concerns about AI, Keerthy Suresh highlighted the ongoing threats to women's safety in India. She pointed out that while technology has advanced, issues surrounding the safety and dignity of women persist. "Women's safety in the country is still questionable in many respects. Even as technology advances, attacks and attempts to defame women have not changed. The misuse of women's faces through AI is very painful," she expressed.
The actress underscored the urgent need for regulatory measures to tackle the misuse of AI technology. She urged both the government and technology firms to take the issue seriously, recognising its societal implications.
As discussions around the ethical use of artificial intelligence continue, Keerthy Suresh's experiences serve as a poignant reminder of the personal toll that technological advancements can impose on individuals, particularly concerning privacy and consent.
