Jio Platforms Limited Debuts on Stock Market with 21% Premium
Jio Platforms Limited makes a notable entry on the stock exchange, listing at a 21% premium amid India’s booming IPO market.

Jio Platforms Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, made a significant debut on the stock market today, listing at a 21% premium. This notable listing marks the company as the 12th entity from Reliance Industries to be welcomed onto the National Stock Exchange. Speaking at the listing ceremony, Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, expressed his deep gratitude to supporters, stating, "Let me begin with the one word that matters the most today, gratitude, to the millions who believed in Jio and made this day possible." Ambani likened the ringing of the stock exchange bell to a temple bell, solidifying the importance of the moment for him personally. He affirmed that for him, business is akin to worship, stating, "Today, the bell at the Exchange will ring for me like a temple bell because for me business is puja and every puja ends with prasad, which is always shared." Jio Platforms aims to broaden its horizons beyond the telecommunications sector, with plans to innovate in technology, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, according to Akash Ambani, managing director of the company. Ambani highlighted that the telecom giant's in-house 5G capabilities and ongoing development of satellite connectivity and next-generation 6G technologies will drive Jio's future growth. The growth potential remains substantial, especially as approximately 260 million citizens in India are still reliant on 2G services, while only about 21% of Indian households have access to fixed broadband. Currently, India leads the world in initial public offering activity, with 246 listings recorded this year, according to data from LSEG. However, in terms of capital raised, it ranks fourth globally at $13.5 billion, following the United States, mainland China, and Hong Kong. The $3.2 billion listing from Jio Platforms represents India’s largest initial public offering to date, attracting bids worth an impressive $77 billion. This initial listing is being closely observed as a barometer for investor interest in substantial public offerings amidst a backdrop of increased scrutiny of companies linked to artificial intelligence. Industry experts have noted Jio Platforms’ valuation of $108.3 billion as attractive, although they caution about challenges such as heightened competition and substantial capital expenditure in the fast-evolving telecommunications landscape.
