Iran War May End Soon, Says US President Donald Trump
United States President Donald Trump has said the ongoing war with Iran could end soon, while warning that the conflict could escalate if Tehran attempts to disrupt global oil supplies.
Speaking during a meeting with Republican lawmakers and later at a press conference in Florida, President Trump described the conflict as a âshort-term excursionâ but emphasised that the United States was prepared to intensify its military response if necessary.
Trump signals possible end to conflict
President Trump said the military campaign against Iran had achieved significant results and could conclude in the near future, although he did not provide a specific timeline.
âItâs going to be ended soon,â he told reporters, adding that if hostilities resumed the United States would respond more forcefully.
The US leader described the military operations as necessary to counter what he characterised as security threats posed by Iran. He said the campaign aimed to weaken Iranâs missile capabilities and prevent future attacks.
According to Trump, US and allied forces have already destroyed a substantial portion of Iranâs missile launch infrastructure.
âTheyâve shot everything they have to shoot,â he said, adding that the United States had dismantled a large number of missile sites and launchers.
The president said the United States had already achieved significant military success but indicated that the broader objective was still being pursued.
âWeâve already won in many ways, but we havenât won enough,â Trump said. âWe go forward more determined than ever to achieve ultimate victory.â
Warning over global oil supply
Despite predicting that the conflict could soon end, Trump warned that the situation could worsen if Iran attempted to interfere with international energy shipments.
Iran lies near several strategic maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the worldâs oil exports passes.
The US president said any attempt to block oil shipments or escalate the conflict would trigger a stronger response from the United States.
During remarks to reporters, Trump warned Iran against what he described as provocative actions.
âIf they do anything bad, that would be the end of Iran,â he said.
His comments suggested that although the United States believes the military campaign has largely achieved its immediate objectives, the situation remains volatile.
Questions over Iranian leadership
President Trump also commented on developments within Iranâs political leadership.
He said he was disappointed by the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iranâs Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as a key figure in the countryâs leadership structure.
Trump said he preferred the idea of leadership emerging from within Iranâs political system through what he described as an âinternalâ selection process.
However, he declined to clarify whether Iranian leaders were being considered as potential military targets, stating only that the leadership change was ânot goodâ.
Background to the conflict
The current conflict began after coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets in late February.
Washington and its allies have said the operations were intended to weaken Iranâs military capabilities, particularly its missile systems.
According to President Trump, the strikes were launched after intelligence suggested Iran was preparing a large-scale attack in the Middle East.
âIf we didnât go in, they would have come in after us,â Trump said, claiming Iran had been preparing missile launches that could have targeted Israel and other regional countries.
He also argued that Iran possessed more missiles than previously estimated, and said US forces had already eliminated around 80 percent of the launch infrastructure.
Iran has not publicly confirmed those figures.
Context: Regional tensions and global impact
The conflict has raised concerns among governments and energy markets around the world, particularly because of the strategic importance of the Middle East to global oil supplies.
Any disruption to shipping routes in the region could affect international energy markets and global trade.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the most critical maritime corridors for oil transport. A large share of global crude exports pass through the narrow waterway each day.
Military analysts say that although the United States claims to have severely weakened Iranâs missile capabilities, the broader political and security consequences of the conflict remain uncertain.
Diplomatic observers note that conflicts in the region often carry risks of escalation involving neighbouring countries or international powers.
For now, President Trumpâs comments suggest the United States believes the conflict may soon conclude, but officials continue to warn that further escalation remains possible depending on Iranâs response.
