India's Deepti Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur Shine in ICC Rankings
Indian cricketers have seen notable improvements in the International Cricket Council (ICC) women's One Day International (ODI) player rankings following strong performances against Zimbabwe. The home series concluded with India clinching a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match series, winning by nine wickets and 121 runs respectively.
Deepti Sharma's impressive all-round performance has propelled her up the rankings. Across the two ODIs, she took five wickets and also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 106 runs off just 86 balls in the second match. This performance has led her to leap four ranks to 23rd in the batting list, while also moving up to eighth among bowlers and advancing to fourth as an all-rounder.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian captain, also made considerable strides, scoring 126 runs off 121 balls in the second ODI, which has elevated her to eighth place among batters.
Pratika Rawal achieved a career milestone with her third ODI century, scoring 100 runs off 96 balls in the first match and 61 runs in the second. As a result, she has surged seven places to secure the 21st spot in the batting rankings with 598 rating points.
Smriti Mandhana, who previously held the number one position, has slipped to second after disappointing scores of 32 and zero in the opening matches. This allows Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa to reclaim the top spot; this marks Wolvaardt's ninth occasion at the summit of the rankings, having first achieved it in March 2022.
In addition, Shafali Verma has made significant gains, jumping 15 places to 73rd in the batting rankings. Kranti Gaud also experienced a rise, moving two slots up to 25th in the bowling rankings while advancing three places to 33rd among all-rounders.
Zimbabweans had their own reasons to celebrate. Modester Mupachikwa made notable progress, rising five ranks to a career-best 39th position with 508 rating points. Other notable gains for Zimbabwe included Chipo Mugeri-Tiripana and Beloved Biza, who climbed to 47th and 56th places respectively.
In a parallel development, within the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings, Shafali Verma has moved up to third place among batters after contributing significantly to India's series victory over Zimbabwe. Mandhana currently resides just below her in fourth place.
Nandani Sharma's performance, particularly her impressive three wickets for 18 runs in the T20I match against Zimbabwe, has propelled her up 13 slots to sit at 32nd place. Kranti Gaud's wicket haul also contributed to her rise, landing her at 38th position.
In Australia, strong performances were noted during their home T20I series against New Zealand, despite one match ending in a washout. Ash Gardner played a pivotal role in securing a series victory for Australia, scoring 84 runs off 45 balls in the rain-affected match. This performance saw her ascend nine spots to 19th in the batting rankings.
Australian bowlers Georgia Wareham and Kim Garth have also seen movement in the rankings, with Wareham making a four-slot jump to joint-seventh place and Garth returning to the top 10 with a five-slot rise.
The ICC rankings continue to reflect the dynamic nature of women's cricket, with players consistently pushing the envelope in performance and skill.
