Delhi High Court Orders Actor Rajpal Yadav to Surrender Over Dues
Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been directed to surrender after failing to resolve ₹9 crore in debts linked to cheque bounce cases.

The Delhi High Court has mandated Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav to surrender to the authorities after he failed to settle an outstanding debt of ₹9 crore originating from cheque bounce cases. This ruling was delivered during a hearing regarding an appeal Yadav filed against a conviction by a lower court in May 2024.

The ruling stated that Yadav is required to report to the jail superintendent by February 4. The High Court's decision comes after Yadav's repeated assurances to the court regarding payments that were never fulfilled. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma remarked on Yadav’s conduct, stating that his pattern of requesting adjournments while promising to settle the matter showed a lack of seriousness.

Yadav’s conviction in 2024 led to a six-month sentence for not clearing his dues to Murli Projects Pvt Ltd, a production company involved in a film production deal. According to the court records, Yadav claimed he was unable to make the necessary payments due to a typographical error in a demand draft, a claim the court found unconvincing.

During previous sessions, Yadav’s legal team proposed a payment plan, suggesting he pay ₹40 lakh by mid-December 2025 and the remaining balance by mid-January 2025. However, the High Court noted that Yadav has not complied with this arrangement to date, further aggravating the situation.

His lawyer, Senior Advocate Abhijat, acknowledged that Yadav had been afforded multiple opportunities to meet his obligations, yet failed to do so. The court pointed out that Yadav’s conduct illustrated an effort to delay the process, with no substantial moves made towards the repayment, despite being offered chances for a resolution.

Yadav previously justified the cheque transactions as legitimate funding for a film project that ultimately did not succeed, leading to significant financial losses. Following his non-compliance, the court has now ordered that Yadav must undergo the agreed-upon sentence after exhibiting a continuous pattern of negligence regarding his financial commitments.

The case illustrates the significant impact of legal and financial disputes in the entertainment sector, especially involving high-profile figures. The court has scheduled another hearing for February 5 to review any developments regarding this order. Legal experts observed that Yadav’s failure to adhere to previous agreements and judicial expectations may have severe repercussions for his career and financial security moving forward.
