Air India Airbus A350 Engine Damaged After Landing in Delhi Fog
An Air India Airbus A350 has been grounded in New Delhi after sustaining engine damage upon landing due to a foreign object striking it while taxiing through dense fog.
The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft had been rerouted back to Delhi Airport as a result of the temporary closure of Iranian airspace. On approach to land, the crew navigated challenging weather conditions which included significantly reduced visibility caused by fog.
While taxiing to the gate, the Airbus encountered a cargo container, leading to damage to its engine. According to aircraft maintenance regulations, any foreign object ingestion can lead to extensive checks and repairs.
As per a report by Economic Times, this grounding may lead to travel disruptions, especially on some of the airline's long-haul routes, as scheduling adjustments will be required while maintenance is conducted.
An Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident and stated, "Safety remains our top priority, and we are ensuring that the aircraft is thoroughly inspected and repaired. We regret any inconvenience caused to our customers."
The Airbus A350 model is known for its advanced technology, fuel efficiency, and premium passenger experience. Air India has been expanding its fleet of A350 aircraft in an effort to enhance its long-haul capabilities.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges faced by airlines operating in regions with fluctuating weather conditions. Moreover, it underlines the importance of rigorous safety protocols to address foreign object debris on airport runways and taxiways.
