India prepares for the decisive Test against England with key changes in the lineup. The match starts on July 31 at The Oval.
Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has articulated his views on the likely playing XI for the fifth and final Test against England, which is set to begin on July 31 at The Oval in London. He believes that the inclusion of pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah is essential, despite speculation surrounding his omission as part of a workload management strategy.

Before the team's arrival in England, head coach Gautam Gambhir had indicated that Bumrah would only feature in three matches of the series. Bangar highlighted the importance of Bumrah, stating, "If you think of how Jasprit Bumrah bowled in the last Test match, he certainly extended his length of spells. He doesn’t seem to be in any sort of discomfort, at least from a distance."

Bangar believes the match is crucial for India, asserting that Bumrah's participation is vital. However, he has suggested that changes to the lineup may be necessary, specifically advocating for the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav instead of an additional batter, referring to Anshul Kamboj, who may be omitted.

"That would sort a lot of the issues as far as bowling is concerned because Mohammed Siraj is going to play anyway. The remaining spot should be filled by either Shardul Thakur or Kuldeep Yadav, and I would be tempted to go with Kuldeep Yadav," Bangar remarked.

Additionally, Bangar has called for all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to be elevated in the batting order. Given Jadeja's significant contributions with the bat in the series, he has suggested batting him at No. 5, with Dhruv Jurel likely to take on wicket-keeping duties due to Rishabh Pant's absence. "Whatever he gives with the ball is a bonus. He can clearly play as a batter in this team," Bangar added.

This commentary comes as India aims to equalise the series against England. Both teams have faced numerous challenges throughout the ongoing series, with injuries and management of player workloads coming to the forefront. England’s captain, Ben Stokes, is sidelined due to injury, while the team is set to be led by Ollie Pope, with several key players returning from fitness concerns.

The playing XI for India proposed by Bangar includes KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep.

The conditions at The Oval are expected to present both teams with unique challenges, as historical patterns indicate that teams often prefer to bowl first due to pitch behaviour.

As both sides approach this crucial clash, each will be keen to secure victory, not only to claim the series but also for the psychological advantage it offers ahead of future contests.
