Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for discussions aimed at strengthening the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The meeting, held in New Delhi on Thursday (December 12, 2024), underscored the growing collaboration between the two nations across key areas, including technology, energy, and regional connectivity.

Prime Minister Modi expressed warm wishes to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and lauded the frequent high-level engagements between the two countries. He highlighted the significance of the recent visit of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to India in September 2024, which symbolized generational continuity in the robust bilateral relationship.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to elevating the partnership to unprecedented heights, with special emphasis on enhancing people-to-people ties and exploring collaborative opportunities in emerging technologies and energy security.

Focus on the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEEC)
A pivotal aspect of the discussions was the implementation of the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEEC), which Prime Minister Modi described as a "historic initiative" to promote regional connectivity and prosperity. IMEEC is envisioned as a transformative infrastructure project that connects India with the Middle East and Europe, fostering trade and economic integration across these regions.

The initiative aligns with India's strategy to strengthen its global connectivity networks and expand its economic footprint, particularly in West Asia and Europe. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the UAE's commitment to collaborating on this landmark project and shared insights on its potential impact on regional development.

Commitment to West Asia’s Stability
Sheikh Abdullah shared his perspective on the prevailing situation in West Asia, a region grappling with complex geopolitical challenges. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to supporting long-term peace, stability, and security in the region. He emphasized that peace in West Asia is vital for global economic and strategic stability, given its significance as a hub for energy resources and trade routes.

The meeting underscored the alignment of India and the UAE’s vision for a stable and prosperous West Asia, with both nations agreeing to deepen their cooperation to address regional challenges.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to the UAE leadership for ensuring the welfare of the vibrant Indian community in the UAE, which plays a crucial role in strengthening the cultural and economic ties between the two nations. The UAE hosts one of the largest Indian diasporas globally, contributing significantly to the UAE's economy and fostering strong bilateral relations.

The India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has emerged as a cornerstone of India’s engagement with the Gulf region. Over the years, the partnership has expanded beyond traditional areas of cooperation, such as trade and energy, to include strategic dialogues on regional security, technological innovation, and climate resilience.

Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on IMEEC reflects India’s commitment to leveraging its geographical and economic strengths to create connectivity frameworks that foster shared prosperity. The UAE, with its strategic location and robust economic capabilities, plays a pivotal role in realizing this vision.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to India is another step in the continued deepening of ties between the two nations.

The India-UAE partnership holds broader implications for regional and global geopolitics. With IMEEC, both nations aim to redefine trade routes and enhance economic integration across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The corridor is expected to facilitate faster and more efficient trade, benefiting economies across the regions it connects.

Moreover, the focus on West Asia’s stability aligns with India’s strategic interests in securing energy supplies and fostering a peaceful environment for economic collaboration. The UAE’s active role as a mediator in the region further complements India’s efforts to promote peace and stability.

The discussions between PM Modi and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan have set the stage for enhanced collaboration between India and the UAE. As both nations continue to work on the implementation of IMEEC and other strategic initiatives, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is poised to scale new heights.

With a shared vision for connectivity, regional stability, and economic prosperity, the India-UAE partnership exemplifies the potential of bilateral cooperation to address global challenges and create a better future for their citizens and the wider region.
