Prime Minister Modi highlights the deepening ties between India and Japan
Meeting Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Japanese Defence Minister Minoru Kihara, who called on him in New Delhi on Monday (August 19, 2024), Prime Minister Modi highlighted the deepening ties between India and Japan.
“Prime Minister highlighted the crucial role India-Japan partnership plays in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said after the meeting.
Foreign Minister Kamikawa and Defence Minister Kihara are in New Delhi for the 3rd round of India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial meeting with their counterparts, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
"Delighted to meet Japanese Foreign Minister @Kamikawa_Yoko and Defense Minister @kihara_minoru ahead of the 3rd India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting. Took stock of the progress made in India-Japan defense and security ties. Reaffirmed the role India-Japan partnership plays in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond," Prime Minister Modi said on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
According to the MEA, PM Modi underscored the importance of holding 2+2 Meeting in the context of increasingly complex regional and global order, and deepening ties between India and Japan. He also shared his thoughts and ideas on closer cooperation between trusted friends like India and Japan, especially in areas like critical minerals, semiconductors and defence manufacturing.
During the meeting, they took stock of progress made in various areas of bilateral cooperation including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, the MEA said.
India and Japan share a 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' which is now in its 10th year and is based on the shared values of democracy, freedom and rule of law.
