This will be the first visit of Anwar Ibrahim to India as the Prime Minister of Malaysia
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar bin Ibrahim will pay a three-day state visit to India, beginning from Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Sunday.

During his August 19-21 visit, the Malaysian Prime Minister on August 20 will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan and will visit Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, after which he will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister, who will also host a luncheon in his honour, the MEA said.

Later in the day, the visiting Malaysian Prime Minister is scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu.
 EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar would also call on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during his visit, the MEA added.

India and Malaysia have strong historical and socio-cultural linkages.

In 2015, during the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Kuala Lumpur, bilateral relationship between India and Malaysia was elevated to the status of Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

“As both countries enter the second decade of Enhanced Strategic Partnership next year, the visit of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would pave the way for further strengthening of India-Malaysia bilateral ties by charting out a multi-sectoral cooperation agenda for the future,” the MEA said.

India and Malaysia have strong historical and socio-cultural linkages.

In 2015, during the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Kuala Lumpur, bilateral relationship between India and Malaysia was elevated to the status of Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

The two countries are also enjoying strong trade ties.

The two-way trade between the two countries reached US$20.01 billion in 2023-24.

Malaysia has emerged as the 16th largest trading partner for India while India figures among the 10 largest trading partners for Malaysia.

Malaysia is also India's 3rd largest trading partner in the ASEAN.

India's primary exports to Malaysia consist of mineral fuels, mineral oils, aluminum and related articles, meat and edible meat offal, iron and steel, copper and related articles, organic chemicals, nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical machinery and equipment, and more.

On the investment front, Malaysia ranks as the 31st largest investor in India with FDI inflow of US$ 3.3 billion.
Besides this, investments worth US$5 billion have been announced by various companies in the fields of renewable energy especially green hydrogen, green ammonia and also infrastructure projects.

Around 70 Malaysian companies, including joint ventures, have established operations in India, focusing on diverse sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, telecommunications, oil and gas, power plants, tourism, and human resources
There are more than 150 Indian companies, including 61 Indian joint ventures and 3 Indian Public Sector Undertakings operating in Malaysia. Indian companies have invested in around 250 manufacturing projects of over US$ 2.62 billion.
