Tourism between India and Vietnam has seen a robust growth, with over 40,000 Vietnamese visitors to India in 2023 alone
In a vibrant display of cultural affinity and international cooperation, the India Tourism pavilion shone brightly at the 13th annual Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2024, held in Hanoi .This event, a cornerstone of Asian tourism, ran from April 11-14, 2024 and featured participants from 16 countries. The Indian stall, a kaleidoscope of India's rich heritage, was inaugurated by Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of the Vietnamese National Tourism Authority, alongside the Ambassador of India.

A Cultural Bridge through Tourism

At the heart of this year's theme at VITM was the presentation of "Incredible India" to the Vietnamese tourism sector. This initiative, backed by both the Embassy of India in Hanoi and the Indian Ministry of Tourism, aims to cement the cultural and tourism ties between the two nations. The opening day was marked by mesmerizing Indian music and dance performances, drawing attention from a multitude of visitors and setting a festive tone for the pavilion.

The pavilion itself offered a gateway into the diverse offerings of Indian tourism. From the spiritual allure of Buddhist sites to the architectural magnificence of India's palaces and forts, the pavilion encapsulated the multifaceted appeal of the nation. These cultural elements catered to the growing interest among Vietnamese travelers towards India's historical and natural treasures.

Strengthening Bonds and Boosting Visitor Numbers

Tourism between India and Vietnam has seen a robust growth, with over 40,000 Vietnamese visitors to India in 2023 alone, a significant increase from previous years. This surge is fueled by an increased interest in India's cultural dimensions, adventure opportunities, and heritage sites. The VITM offered a platform to further promote these aspects, with India showcasing a rich array of print materials, videos, and digital content to engage businesses and travelers alike.

In practical terms, the connectivity between the two countries has never been better. Direct flights link major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, simplifying travel logistics and encouraging more frequent exchanges. These air links are complemented by tailored tours and travel packages, making it easier for Vietnamese tourists to explore India’s varied landscapes and cultural offerings.

The Indian Embassy has been particularly proactive, organizing familiarization trips for Vietnamese travel operators and conducting outreach meetings to boost tourism. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance awareness and foster deeper connections between the people of both nations through travel.

The recent introduction of a new Air India flight route from Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City exemplifies this approach. Starting June 1, this direct connection will operate five days a week, catering to the growing demand for travel between India and Vietnam. This route not only facilitates easier travel but also strengthens economic and cultural ties by providing seamless access to broader international networks.

The enthusiastic reception at the VITM 2024 reflects a mutual respect and interest that transcends mere travel. It highlights the potential of tourism to act as a bridge, enhancing mutual understanding and contributing to a comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Vietnam.

As both nations continue to embrace their historical links and explore new avenues for cooperation, events like the VITM serve as pivotal moments for reflection on past achievements and planning for a future where cultural and economic exchanges flourish, bringing the people of India and Vietnam closer together in spirit and enterprise.
