Strong bipartisan support from the US Congress is instrumental in further elevating India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, PM Modi says
Welcoming a US Congressional delegation to India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (August 16, 2023) expressed his appreciation for the bipartisan support of the US Congress for India-US relations. This support had been instrumental in further elevating the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, he said.
The delegation of eight members from the House of Representatives had called on Prime Minister Modi in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. "Welcoming the delegation to India, Prime Minister conveyed his appreciation for the consistent and bipartisan support of the US Congress for India-US relations," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.
"Glad to receive a Congressional delegation from US, including co-chairs of India Caucus in the House of Representatives, Rep. @RoKhanna and Rep. @michaelgwaltz. Strong bipartisan support from the US Congress is instrumental in further elevating India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
During their interaction, Prime Minister Modi and the US delegation highlighted that the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership is based on shared democratic values, respect for rule of law and strong people-to-people ties. He fondly recalled his historic State Visit to the US in June at the invitation of President Biden during which he had an opportunity to address a Joint Session of the US Congress for a second time.
The US Congressional delegation delegation included Rep. Ro Khanna, Democratic co-chair of the India Caucus, Rep. Mike Waltz, Republican co-chair of the India Caucus, Rep. Ed Case, Rep. Kat Cammack, Rep. Deborah Ross, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, Rep. Rich McCormick and Rep. Shri Thanedar.
Undertaking a productive and successful visit to the US in June this year, Prime Minister Modi had described India-US ties as multifaceted, with deepening engagements across sectors.
Prime Minister Modi received a warm welcome at the White House from President Joseph Biden and First Lady Jill Biden on June 23, 2023. The visit, marked by the presence of hundreds of Indian-Americans, underscored the deepening ties between the two nations. They engaged in discussions that emphasized the enduring friendship and expanding collaboration between their nations.
Prime Minister Modi had productive conversations with President Biden, in restricted and delegation-level formats, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said. "The leaders highlighted the long-standing friendship and growing cooperation between the two countries, which spans areas like trade and investment, defence and security, energy, climate change, and people-to-people ties," the PMO added.
