Indian Navy and DRDO successfully test indigenous 'ADC-150' Air Droppable Container

The Indian Navy and the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone with the successful trial of the 'ADC-150' from the IL 38SD aircraft off the coast of Goa on April 27, 2023.

As per the official press release from the Ministry of Defense, the purpose of this test was to enhance the naval operational logistics capabilities by quickly assisting ships that are over 2,000 kilometers from the shore and in need of key engineering supplies, particularly in emergency scenarios. The 150-kilogram payload capacity ADC-150 container was designed and created indigenously, and it can be air-dropped from an aircraft.

The successful test trial marks a significant achievement for the Indian Navy and DRDO, improving the naval operational logistics capabilities and reducing the need for ships to come closer to the coast to collect spares and stores

Three DRDO labs—Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam; Aerial Delivery Research & Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra; and Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru—were engaged in the development of the ADC-150. The Regional Center for Military Airworthiness (RCMA) in Kanpur, led by the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC), Bengaluru, provided the essential flight clearance certification.

Secretary Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDO congratulated the scientists and the Indian Navy for this accomplishment.
