India and Fiji share cordial relations between them and Narendra Modi as Indian Prime Minister had visited Fiji in November 2014

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Sitiveni Rabuka on his election as the Prime Minister of Fiji.

The Prime Minister tweeted: “Congratulations @slrabuka on your election as the Prime Minister of Fiji. I look forward to working together to further strengthen the close and long-standing relations between India and Fiji.”

India and Fiji, a Pacific nation, enjoy warm relations between them. PM Modi had visited Fiji on November 19, 2014. Both countries held the fifth round of Foreign Office Consultations on July 18, 2022 in Suva.

During the FoC, both sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations covering political, economic, defense, cultural and consular matters and discussed ways to further strengthen the close bilateral ties between India and Fiji. Both sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to further strengthen the bilateral friendship and the development partnership.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues of interest and agreed to enhance their cooperation in the multilateral for a, the MEA said.

On April 27, 2022, while addressing the opening of Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Fiji via a video message, PM Modi said that the hospital is a symbol of the relationship between the two countries, another chapter in the shared journey of India and Fiji.

According to the Department of Commerce, in 2021-22, India and Fiji carried out $51.10 million worth of trade.
