The proposals include light tanks, naval anti-ship missiles, and next-generation offshore patrol vessels

The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 24 capital acquisition proposals for the Armed Forces and the Indian Coast Guard.

The decision was taken at the DAC meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday.

These bids total Rs 84,328 crore and comprise six for the Indian Army, six for the Indian Air Force, 10 for the Indian Navy, and two for the Indian Coast Guard. It is important to note that 21 bids totaling Rs 82,127 crore (97.4%) have been accepted for purchase from domestic sources.

In addition to modernizing the armed forces, this ground-breaking effort by DAC will provide the defense sector with a major boost and help India attain its "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" aim.

The AoNs granted will provide the Indian Army access to platforms and tools including futuristic infantry combat vehicles, light tanks, and mounted gun systems, drastically improving its operational readiness. The purchase of ballistic helmets for our soldiers that offer a higher level of protection is also included in the proposals.

The approval of the purchase of multipurpose ships, high-endurance autonomous vehicles, and naval anti-ship missiles would further strengthen maritime power and expand the capabilities of the Indian Navy.

With the introduction of a new missile system, long-range guided bombs, range-augmentation kits for conventional bombs, and cutting-edge surveillance systems, the Indian Air Force will be significantly bolstered with increased deadly capabilities.

The Indian Coast Guard, on the other hand, will be able to conduct higher-level coastal surveillance thanks to the acquisition of Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels.
