Rajnath Singh also said that India’s victory over Pakistan was a victory of "justice over injustice"

On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, which commemorates India's resounding victory over Pakistan that resulted in the creation of Bangladesh, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that the 1971 war was a victory of "justice over injustice" and "humanity over inhumanity."

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Today, on Vijay Diwas, the Nation salutes the exemplary courage, bravery and sacrifice of India’s Armed Forces. The 1971 war was the triumph of humanity over inhumanity, virtue over misconduct and justice over injustice. India is proud of its Armed Forces."

Defence Minister Singh visited the National War Memorial to pay respects to the brave members of the Indian Armed Forces who fought in the 1971 war and gave their lives in defense of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Indian Army personnel who contributed to India's stunning victory in 1971.

He tweeted, "On Vijay Diwas, I pay homage to all those brave armed forces personnel who ensured India attained an exceptional win in the 1971 war. Our nation will always be indebted to the armed forces for their role in keeping the country safe and secure."

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also praised the gallant Indian Armed Forces, whose valor helped the country win the war.

He tweeted, "On Vijay Divas, join the nation in saluting our brave Indian Armed Forces whose valour led to a decisive victory in the 1971 war. We will always be grateful for their service and sacrifices."

On December 16, 1971, around 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the combined forces of the Indian Army and the "Mukti Bahini," which allowed Bangladesh to be formed. Every year, India commemorates its momentous victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war by observing December 16 as Vijay Diwas.
