India and Zimbabwe have strong bilateral ties in politics, business, culture, and development aid

A delegation from the National Railways of Zimbabwe met Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Wednesday and discussed collaborations to upgrade the rail system in the African country.

Posting information about the meeting on Twitter, MoS Muraleedharan said they explored potential partnerships for training, capacity building, and upgrading Zimbabwe's railroads.

"Useful interaction with the visiting National Railways of Zimbabwe delegation led by Chairman Martin Dinha. Ambassador of Zimbabwe in India Dr. Godfrey Majoni Chipare also joined Discussed possible collaborations in training, capacity building and upgradation of Zimbabwe railways," he wrote.

India and Zimbabwe have strong bilateral ties in politics, business, culture, and development aid; these ties have grown stronger in recent years.

Wednesday's meeting comes a little over a month after Muraleedharan travelled to Zimbabwe on June 6-7 as part of his Africa visit. During the visit, India fulfilled a pledge to deliver 10 ambulances made during the Vice President's 2018 visit to Zimbabwe.

India worked closely with Zimbabwe during the Covid-19 pandemic and offered support to them in their efforts to combat the disease. In March 2021, 35,000 doses of the Covaxin vaccine were delivered in a shipment.

Additionally, India delivered three cars for the Indo-Zim Technology Centers, for which the most recent equipment, valued at around USD 3 million, was provided under Phase II.
