The projects were implemented as part of India's development assistance to Bangladesh

Three India-funded projects, including a school building, which are aimed at improving the lives of the local community were inaugurated in Sylhet, Bangladesh on Saturday.

The projects are:

* Development of Dhupadighipar area, Sylhet.

* Construction of Cleaners Colony building at Kastoghar, Sylhet.

* Construction of a School building at Chara Dighi Par, Sylhet.

Indian High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami, along with Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives of Bangladesh Md. Tazul Islam, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh A.K. Abdul Momen and Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury jointly inaugurated these projects, the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh said.

These projects have been funded by the Government of India and implemented by the Sylhet City Corporation as part of an MoU signed in 2017 for “Construction of Infrastructure for Education and better Environment of Sylhet City Corporation” between the High Commission of India, Economic Relations Department of the Ministry of Finance of Government of Bangladesh and the Sylhet City Corporation.

"All the three projects are focussed towards improving the lives of the local community and are part of many such projects being implemented under development assistance across Bangladesh with funding from the Government of India," the Indian High Commission said.

A five-storied women’s hostel in Sylhet constructed with financial assistance from India was also inaugurated by High Commissioner Doraiswami on Saturday.

The hostel has been constructed with a financial assistance of BDT 4.35 crores from the Government of India and is located at the premises of Umesh Chandra-Nirmalabala Chhatrabas at Chalibandar in Sylhet, Bangladesh, according to the Indian High Commission.

The hostel, which will be run on a not-for-profit basis by the Umesh Chandra-Nirmalabala Chhatrabas Trust, can accommodate 160 women students.
