India and Hungary enjoy close and multifaceted relations

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday met Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in New Delhi and discussed bilateral and international matters of importance.

Speaking about it, he tweeted: “A real pleasure to welcome FM Peter Szijjarto of Hungary in New Delhi.”

"A warm and insightful discussion with FM Péter Szijjártó of Hungary today. Appreciated Hungarian support for Operation Ganga and discussed admission of Indian medical students in Hungary" EAM Jaishankar tweeted.

Earlier, along with Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, the visiting Hungarian FM who is also a Minister for Trade, inaugurated a business forum.

Tweeting about it, she said, “Great pleasure to inaugurate the Business Forum with Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade of Hungary. Our bilateral trade has seen rapid growth in recent years. This event is a step in realising our full potential in trade & investment & expanding our ties.”

India and Hungary enjoy close and multifaceted relations. EAM Jaishankar and Hungarian FM Peter Szijjarto have been regularly meeting each other since 2019. Jaishankar had undertaken three-day visit, from August 25 to 27 to Budapest in 2019

Last year on September 1-2, the two foreign ministers again met on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia. Their meeting again took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 22, 2021

India's friendly relations with Hungary continued to grow steadily although the Covid-19 pandemic impacted the pace of activities.

Hungary and India exchanged notes for mutual recognition of Covid vaccination certificates on October 8, 2021.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a notification to bring this into effect from October 25, 2021.
