India has become the fastest country in the world to achieve more than 70 lakh vaccinations against Covid-19

The World Health Organization (WHO) has hailed India for its efforts to contain the contagious coronavirus, and the successful roll-out of the nationwide vaccination drive citing the country's declining daily infections.

“Over three months now, cases of Covid-19 in India have been consistently going down... Considering the magnitude of the population...it's something the Government of India should be very, very proud of,” WHO’s India representative Roderico Ofrin was quoted as saying by a wire agency.

“Bringing that diligence, discipline, and vigor into their response to the vaccination campaign, we have seen it's been so successful. Around six million were vaccinated in 22 days. It's the fastest as we see rates of vaccination happening,” Ofrin added.

Mentioning the efforts of Gujarat in particular, Ofrin stated, “Hats off to Gujarat government for taking the review amid pandemic for information and better evidence to tweak their responses, which they have, especially during the second wave that happened.”

According to the Union Health Ministry, India has become the fastest country in the world to achieve more than 70 lakh vaccinations against Covid-19 in only 26 days, while it took 27 days for the US and 48 days for the UK to reach the same figures.

"The cumulative number of healthcare workers and frontline workers vaccinated against Covid-19 is 74,30,866 as of 7 pm today, as per the provisional report. 1,53,799 sessions have been held so far. 10,743 sessions were held till 7 pm today," the health ministry said.
