The survey also predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would retain power with a huge margin if the general elections were held today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to enjoy tremendous trust and support on the basis of his performance during a period marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Chinese aggression along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), a survey conducted by India Today shows.

The results of the January 2021 India Today Mood of The Nation (MOTN) poll published on Thursday are unambiguous: 74% per cent of the respondents rated PM Modi's performance as "good" or "outstanding".

The survey also predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would retain power with a huge margin if the general elections were held today.

Coming as it does nearly a year after the Prime Minister Modi-led government began battling the Covid-19 pandemic, the poll results indicate a clear endorsement of the decisions taken to deal with the unprecedented challenges to people's health as well as the economy.

The latest figure is a little below the 78 per cent rating he enjoyed in August 2020, but the results still underscore the Indian Prime Minister's massive popularity even during his seventh successive year in power.

According to the MOTN survey, 40 per cent respondents believe PM Modi's performance was "good", followed by 30 per cent who feel it was "outstanding".

Only six per cent of the respondents in the poll believed that his performance was "poor"; a total of 14 per cent people polled thought it was "average".

Such is his continuing popularity that he is also way ahead in the ratings for the best Prime Minister at 38 per cent, much more than Indira Gandhi at 11 per cent, Jawaharlal Nehru at 8 per cent and Manmohan Singh at 7 per cent.

According to India Today, a majority of those polled - 53 per cent - approved of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA. which triggered riots in Delhi in February 2020 gets the approval of a majority of those polled (53 per cent). There is an even greater support for the Uniform Civil Code, at 70 per cent.

Those who participated in the MOTN poll believed that the Supreme Court's decision paving the way for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the revocation of Article 370 in Kashmir are the two biggest achievements of the Modi government.
