Prime Minister Narendra Modi also dedicated the National Atomic Timescale to the nation to mark National Metrology Day 2021

The value creation cycle of science to mass-creation is important as the country is moving forward with the goal of Aatmnirbhar India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.

Addressing the National Metrology Conclave 2021, he exhorted the scientific community to promote this cycle and pointed out that a country's progress had a direct correlation to its effort to promote science.

Terming this as the ‘value creation cycle’ of science, technology and industry, he explained how a scientific invention creates a technology and technology leads to industry development. The industry, in turn, invests further in science for new research.

"This cycle keeps on taking us in the direction of new possibilities," Prime Minister Modi said.

Dedicating the National Atomic Timescale to the nation, he noted that India had become self-reliant in measuring time within the range of a nano second; achieving the accuracy level of 2.8 Nano Second was a huge capability in itself, he added.

"Now Indian Standard Time is matching the International Standard Time with the accuracy range of less than 3 nano second. This will be a big help for organizations like ISRO who are working with cutting edge technology. Modern technology related to banking, railways, defense, health, telecom, weather forecast, disaster management and many similar sectors will be benefited greatly from this achievement," Prime Minister Modi said.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the importance of the timescale in strengthening India’s role in Industry 4.0.

While India was moving towards a leading position in the field of environment, it was still dependent on others for technology and tools for measuring air quality and emission, he said.

"This achievement will lead to self-reliance in the field and will lead to creation of more effective and cheaper tools for pollution control. This will also enhance India’s share in global market for technologies related to air quality and emission technology. We have achieved this by the continuous efforts of our scientists," he was quoted saying in a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.

Prime Minister Modi also discussed the role of research in various knowledge sectors. Research is not only a natural habit but also a natural process in any progressive society, he pointed out.

Calling for cross-utilization of research and institutionalization of innovation, he explained how, at times, a particular research might not fulfil its immediate goal but the same research can become path-breaking in some other sector.
