The past 24 hours saw 78,365 recoveries taking the total number to 59,06,069

With the recovery rate surpassing the rate of new infections, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country has dropped below the 9 lakh mark for the first time in a month demonstrating the falling percentage of the total cases in the country.

The latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare shows that the active cases in India stand at 8,93,592 which is 12.94 per cent of the total reported positive cases in the country.

India, in the past 24 hours recorded 78,365 recoveries, taking the total number of recoveries to 59,06,069. With this, the recovery rate further improved to 85.52 per cent.

Releasing the data, the ministry said, “The declining trend of the percentage active cases is commensurately supported by rising percentage of recovered cases. The total recovered cases stand at 59,06,069. The gap between Recovered cases and Active cases has crossed 50 lakh (50,12,477).”

The highest number of recoveries were reported from 10 states and union territories of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh.

Out of these, Maharashtra reported 15,575 recoveries, the highest among all the states while it was followed by 9,613 of Karnataka and 7,003 of Kerala. Similarly, 6,102 recoveries were reported from Andhra Pradesh and 5,718 recoveries were reported from Tamil Nadu.

Uttar Pradesh and Odisha also reported over 3,000 recoveries each while West Bengal, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh reported over 2,000 recoveries each.

On the other hand, India reported 70,496 new cases of COVID-19 infections and 964 new deaths in the past 24 hours. The ministry said that, for the third consecutive week, the number of recoveries has surpassed the number of new infections.

“This is the result of collaborative action by States/UTs under the Centre's strategy of comprehensive testing, tracking, quick hospitalization and adherence to the Standard Treatment Protocol which has ensured a standardised quality of medical care across the public and private hospitals and for the home isolation cases,” the ministry said.

Of the new infections, the highest number of cases were reported from Maharashtra which reported a total of 13,395 cases and 358 deaths while Karnataka followed it closely with 10,704 fresh cases and 101 new deaths.

Kerala also reported 5445 new cases and 24 new deaths and Andhra Pradesh reported 5,292 new cases and 42 new deaths. Tamil Nadu also reported 5,088 cases and 68 new deaths.

National capital Delhi also reported 2,726 new cases and 37 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

The total number of positive cases have surpassed the 69 lakh to reach 69,06,151 cases out of which 59,06,069 patients have already recovered while 1,06,490 people have lost their lives.
