India tested a total of 9,89,860 samples for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Reaching another milestone, India has surpassed the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) advised rate of daily resting for COVID-19 by nearly six times, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has said.

The Union Health Ministry has informed that India has exceeded WHO’s advised rate of testing of 140 tests per day per million by nearly six times as it is now doing 828 tests per day per million.

The Ministry, in a tweet said, “India has exceeded 140/day/million population as advised by @WHO by nearly 6 times. Several States/UTs have demonstrated better performance than the national average.”



The Ministry also posted a chart showing the tests per day per million in several states of the country which test higher than the WHO’s advised number.

According to the chart, National Capital Delhi tests the highest number of samples in a day on each million for COVID-19, while Rajasthan tests the lowest in the category.

The data said that Delhi tests 2,717 samples per day per million while Rajasthan tests only 280, which is higher than the number advised by the WHO.

Similarly, Goa is able to test 1,319 samples per day per million followed by 1,261 of Karnataka and 1,169 of Andhra Pradesh. Assam also tests 1150 samples while Telangana tests 1130 samples per day per million.

The data suggests that Tamil Nadu tests 1,032 samples and Uttar Pradesh tests 1,026 samples per day per million. Jharkhand also tests 1,014 tests per day.

Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Haryana each test over 900 samples per day per million and Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat and Kerala each test over 800 samples per day per million.

Bihar is also testing 683 samples while Maharashtra, which has the highest number of positive cases tests 595 samples per day, per million.

West Bengal tests 416 samples while Madhya Pradesh tests 314 samples per day per million.
