Data released by the Health Ministry suggested the last 10 lakh recoveries were added in just 11 days
With close to 75,000 recoveries in the past 24 hours, the total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in India has crossed the 50 lakh (5 million) mark taking the recovery rate to a high of 82.58 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, India recorded 74,893 recoveries taking the total to 50,16,620.
In a statement, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said, “The total recovered cases have outpaced active cases by more than 5 times. With the exponential increase in the recoveries, there is close to 100% increase in recovered cases in one month”.
The data released by the ministry suggested the last 10 lakh recoveries were added in just 11 days.
According to the data released by the ministry, 73 per cent of the new recovered cases are being reported from 10 states and union territories of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Kerala, Odisha, West Bengal and Punjab.
Out of the total, the highest number was from Maharashtra which reported 13,565 recoveries in the past 24 hours while Andhra Pradesh reported 7,796 of the total recoveries. Around 6,522 recoveries were reported from Karnataka and 5,706 recoveries were reported from Tamil Nadu.
While Uttar Pradesh recorded 5,676 recoveries, Delhi reported 3,739 recoveries in the past 24 hours. The data said that Kerala reported 3,391 recoveries and Odisha reported 3,378 recoveries. Similarly, West Bengal reported 2,946 recoveries and Punjab reported 2,299 recoveries.
“The commendable feat has been achieved through an array of calibrated, effective, and cohesive measures led by the Centre and implemented by the State and UT governments. Enhanced medical infrastructure, implementation of Standard Treatment Protocol, and full dedication & commitment of doctors, paramedics & frontline workers have supplemented all-round efforts under the ‘Whole of Government’ approach,” the ministry said.
A total of 7,09,394 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
On the other hand, India reported a total of 82,170 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Around 1,039 deaths were also reported during the same period of time. The highest number of cases came from the five states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Around 18,056 fresh cases and 380 new deaths were reported from Maharashtra which was the highest number of cases and deaths reported from any state in the past 24 hours.
The second highest number was reported from Karnataka with a total of 9,543 cases and 79 new deaths. Kerala reported 7,445 cases and 21 deaths. Andhra Pradesh also reported 6,923 cases and 45 deaths.
Tamil Nadu reported 5,791 new cases and 80 deaths in the past 24 hours. National Capital Delhi also reported 3,292 fresh cases of infection and 42 new deaths.
The total number of positive cases in the country has crossed the 60-lakh mark with 60,74,702 cases. While over 50 lakh people have already recovered, 95,542 people have lost their lives.
