The Prime Minister urged IIT-Guwahati to build a Center for Disaster Management for tackling calamities in the region

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the National Education Policy (NEP) includes the establishment of a National Research Foundation for coordination with all funding agencies to provide funds for all disciplines.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Guwahati convocation virtually, stating all the knowledge including science is a means to solve the problems.

NEP 2020 would make India a global leader in science and technology. It has been structured in a multi-disciplinary way while offering flexibility of choosing various courses and also allowing numerous entry and exit stages, he said.

While delivering his speech, he stated the policy would open doors for Indian Education sector for students from abroad by permitting foreign universities to set up offshore campuses in India.

The Prime Minister urged IIT-Guwahati to build a Center for disaster management for tackling calamities in the North-East region, which will also provide the expertise in the field.

He added, "The North-East region is the center for India's Act East Policy and gateway to India's relations with South East Asia. The mainstay of relations with these countries have been Culture, Commerce, Connectivity and Capacity," according to an official statement.

Education would pave the way to be another new medium and IIT Guwahati can become its leading center. This will give the North-East a new recognition and new opportunities will also evolve, PM Modi mentioned.
