All Hyderabad vaccine companies are robust in manufacturing technology and have the capacity to manufacture millions of doses

With the world’s pharma companies working round the clock to come up with a potentially effective vaccine against the coronavirus, Hyderabad pops up in the mind.

Dr Varaprasad Reddy, founder and chairman of Shantha Biotechnics Ltd, told The Times of India that a vaccine developed anywhere in the world will be churned out of Hyderabad. Reddy says all Hyderabad vaccine companies are robust in manufacturing technology and have the capacity to manufacture millions of doses with good standards.

Similarly, says the report, Mahima Datla, the managing director of Biological E Limited, believes that Hyderabad will be an integral part of the COVID-19 solution just by the dint of the sheer vaccine manufacturing capacity it houses. Dalta is also the president of the Developing Countries Vaccine Manufacturers Network (DCVMN). She pointed out that most of the COVID-19 vaccine candidates are developed by academic laboratories or non-vaccine companies, who don’t have the requisite infrastructure and will have no choice but to partner with companies in India and China, the report said. Furthermore, IlL deputy MD Prasanna Deshpande feels that no one is better poised to offer this than Hyderabad given its scale of operations.

The report says that the Telangana government is also excited about Hyderabad’s role in the COVID-19 battle. The principal secretary industries & ITE&C Telangana, Jayesh Ranjan said being the vaccine capital of the world, we are fully committed to playing an enabling role in global vaccination efforts against COVID-19, and proactively support our companies to quickly ramp up production to serve the world.
