There has been a high yield in agricultural production in the face of crisis from the Covid-19 pandemic.

India has sustained the global food supply chain and continued with exports of cereals and other food items in the face of challenges from Covid-19 pandemic triggered lockdowns. During March-June 2020, the agricultural export increased by 23.24 percent compared to last year.

Indian ambassador to US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu twitted, “During the difficult time of pandemic, India sustained the world food supply chain and continued to export. Agricultural export during the March-June 2020 increased by 23.24 percent compare to last year.”

Agriculture sector grew by 2.9 percent during 2019-20 as against 2.74 percent in 2018-19. The commodities which witnessed positive growth in exports in April to June, 2020 when compared with the same period last year are tur, wheat, Bengal gram and groundnut oil. Agri exports are expected to increase from 40 billion dollars to 60 billion by 2022.

There has been a high yield in agricultural production despite Covid-19. Production of food grains is expected to be 295.67 million tonnes, which is an increase of 3.67 percent.
