The new NEP will focus on creating ‘job creators’ instead of ‘job seekers,’ said PM Modi

The National Education Policy (NEP), which was approved by the government recently, emphasizes on interdisciplinary studies and the focus will be on “what students want to learn,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the grand finale of Smart India Hackathon 2020 via video conferencing.

"We are focussing on the quality of education in India. Our attempts have been to make our education system the most advance and modern for students of our country," Modi was quoted as saying in a report by Livemint.

Speaking at the virtual event, PM Modi added that NEP has been framed keeping in mind the aspirations of the youth of the 21st century. He further said that the role of youth is key in achieving the goal of ‘ease of living’ to provide a better life to the poor, the report said.

The Prime Minister conveyed that the emphasis of NEP will be on making ‘job creators’ instead of ‘job seekers’. Talking about proposing mother tongue as the medium of instruction in NEP, he said that the move will increase the country’s knowledge and unity; LiveMint quoted him as saying.

The Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative that provides students with a platform to solve some of the pressing problems people face in their daily lives.

The event saw participation from the students from Shri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Tamil Nadu, MLR Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, JECRC University, Jaipur, Graphic Era University, Dehradun and Chandigarh Engineering College as per the report.
