The Indian Council of Medical Research has further ramped up the testing capacity for detecting the novel Coronavirus in infected persons.

Despite being among the worst Covid-19 pandemic affected countries, India is also witnessing a significant jump in the recovery rate.

In the last 24 hours the recovery rate has gone up to 48.20 percent with 4,611 Covid-19 patients being cured of the disease, thereby taking the total of 1,14,073 patients coming out of deadly grip of the virus in the country even as 6642 people died while fighting the fatal virus.

As per the daily bulletin of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are presently 1,15,942 active cases and all are under active medical supervision.

The number of government labs has been increased to 520 and private labs has been increased to 222 (A total of 742).1,37,938 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of samples tested thus far is 45,24,317.

Earlier in response to a media query in Geneva, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had said the Covid-19 pandemic, which has presented challenges for several nations, could be an “opportunity” for India to speed up the health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat, especially with a focus on primary health care.
