When uncertainty and chaos prevail across the world with helplessness and frustration pervading every corner of the society, Lord Buddha’s teachings appear relevant and effective, says Prime Minister Modi

Human beings should try their best to fight out any crisis and come out victorious, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while delivering a keynote address through video conferencing on the occasion of Buddha Purnima on Thursday.

Addressing the programme, organized by the International Buddhist Confederation, the Prime Minister said there is no need to be hopeless. “To stop after getting tired is not a solution to any problem. All of us will have to fight together to defeat coronavirus,” the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister said, “India is constantly working to help other countries across the globe and will continue to do the same.” He said at the time when uncertainty and chaos prevail across the world with helplessness and frustration pervading every corner of the society then Lord Buddha’s teachings appear relevant and effective.

The Prime Minister said, “Lord Buddha contributed to the enrichment of Indian civilization and tradition. Buddha became his own light and also lit the lives of others in his journey of life.”

He said, “Buddha is not only a name, but a sacred though; a thought that resides in every human being. Buddha is the ultimate sacrifice and devotion. Buddha is a synonym of service and dedication.”

Paying his tribute to tribute to Covid-19 warriors fighting the pandemic from the frontlines, he said, "During this difficult time of coronavirus lockdown, there are several people around us who are working 24 hours to help others, to maintain law and order, to cure infected persons and to maintain cleanliness, by sacrificing their own comforts. All such people deserve appreciation and honour.”

He further said Buddha is the symbol of both realization and self-realization of India and with this self-realization India is working in the interest of humanity and the world, and will continue to do so.
