25 participants from the States of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and UT of J&K are participating in this ten-day-long training programme

Ten day-long ICAR sponsored training programme on “Conservation Agriculture Practices for Enhancing Productivity and Resource Use Efficiency in Major Cropping Systems” commenced at (SKUAST) Jammu.

The training programme was inaugurated by Dr K.S. Risam, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST (Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology)-Jammu.

25 participants from the States of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and UT of Jammu and Kashmir are participating in the training programme.

Dr KS Risam, Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of conservation agriculture. He emphasized on conservation of agriculture practices, productivity enhancement and judicious use of resources. He further advocated that conservation agriculture can play a vital role in sustaining the farmer’s income. He also discussed the importance of Zero tillage, Direct Seeded Rice and other resource conservation technologies in agriculture.

Dr DP Abrol, Dean FoA SKUAST-J and Convener of the training programme while highlighting the importance of conservation agriculture technologies emphasized that these technologies should be adopted at a wider spectrum.

Dr RK Gupta, Director Research SKUAST-Jammu and Dr BC Sharma, Professor and Head, Division of Agronomy and Course Director of the programme also expressed their views.

On the occasion, compendium of lecture notes covering different aspects of conservation agriculture was released by Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu and other dignitaries.

A publication entitled “Technology Park at a Glance” was also released on the occasion.

The inaugural function was attended by Rajesh Talwar, Comptroller and Registrar, SKUAST-Jammu, Dr Dileep Kachroo, Chief Scientist and Head, Farming System Research Centre and Co-convener of the programme, Heads of the divisions, Scientists and resource persons.

In the end, Dr R Puniya Course Coordinator proposed a formal vote of thanks.
