Fostering Developmental Projects with Community Impact

Funded by the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative, the grant was allocated for constructing a double-storied school building and a hostel, alongside furnishing both facilities. This project was spearheaded through the District Coordination Committee, Khotang, marking it as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), formerly known as Small Development Projects.

This initiative is part of a broader agreement between the Governments of India and Nepal, aimed at fostering developmental projects with substantial community impact.

Shree Sharada Secondary School, established in 1952, has been a centre of education in the region, offering classes from 1 to 10+2 level. With over 365 students, approximately half of whom are girls, the school has been pivotal in providing quality education and shaping the future of its pupils.

Broader Indo-Nepal Cooperation

Since 2003, India has embarked on over 550 HICDPs across Nepal, successfully completing 488 of these. In the Koshi Province alone, 85 projects have been initiated, including this notable project in Khotang. Moreover, India has contributed significantly to Nepal's healthcare and education sectors by donating 974 ambulances and 234 school buses, enhancing the infrastructural capabilities of local institutions.

India continues to support the developmental endeavours of Nepal’s Government with the implementation of HICDP’s. This cooperation not only strengthens the bilateral ties but also significantly contributes to the upliftment and infrastructure development in Nepal's priority sectors.
