The growing camaraderie between India and Bangladesh is evident through various strategic engagements
In a rapidly globalizing world where digitization surges at an unprecedented pace, nations grapple with the intricate challenges of cybersecurity. Reflecting a commitment to ensuring a safer digital environment, India and Bangladesh convened in the Bangladeshi capital for the finale of 'Cyber Maitree 2023', an initiative hosted by the ICT Division, Government of Bangladesh.

Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma and Bangladesh’s Minister of ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, lent their presence to this event. This gathering wasn't just a close to an event but an emblem of the heightened collaboration between the two nations in cybersecurity and digital space management.

'Cyber Maitree', eloquently translating to "Cyber Friendship", isn't merely a program. It's a testament to the proliferating ties between two nations that share not just a border but a rich tapestry of history, culture, and aspirations. It manifests as an interface for cybersecurity experts and aspirants from both nations, creating an avenue for extensive training, practical exercises, and a dynamic exchange of information, which is becoming increasingly pertinent in the age of digital threats.

High Commissioner Verma, addressing an audience that comprised a blend of industry leaders, cybersecurity aficionados, and policymakers, accentuated the urgent need for bolstering digital safety. As both nations hurtle towards an era of expansive digitization, our collective onus, he noted, is to ensure that this digital evolution remains unfettered from potential threats. Verma highlighted the virtue of "Cyber Maitree 2023" in its role as a platform for knowledge dissemination, augmented capacity building, and the cultivation of cyber awareness.

But what does this symbiotic cyber initiative truly encapsulate? It’s an endeavor to fortify cyber resilience, pinpoint potential vulnerabilities in networks, bolster rigorous risk assessments, and to illuminate the landscape of cyber threats. High Commissioner Verma delved into the cross-disciplinary vision of this program, encompassing an array of sectors from cybersecurity to artificial intelligence, and from ICT to IT-driven human resource expansion.

Given the increasing interconnectedness of the modern world, initiatives like these not only become imperative but form the backbone of international relations in the 21st century. The growing camaraderie between India and Bangladesh has been evident through various strategic engagements. Verma delineated some of these collaborative projects, such as the pioneering India-Bangladesh Startup Bridge and the ambitious venture of establishing 12 High Tech Parks in Bangladesh, which are anticipated to be nerve-centers of innovation and technology.

In a bid to institutionalize their commitment, both nations had previously crafted a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in April 2022. This foundational document underscored the accentuated collaboration in spheres as diverse as e-governance, e-public service delivery, research, and development. Furthermore, a separate agreement, pivotal in the current cyber context, was inked focusing on mutual information sharing pertaining to cyber-attacks and incidents.

Acknowledging India’s dedication and expertise, Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak conveyed his gratitude to High Commissioner Verma and the insightful delegation from India’s CERT-In. Their shared expertise, he acknowledged, was invaluable in enhancing Bangladesh's digital armor against the burgeoning landscape of cyber threats.

As part of the event's broader narrative, experts from both nations had, in a preceding session, underscored the exigency of enhancing the skill sets of tech aficionados. With cyber threats mutating and evolving, the need for a fortified front is imperative. The World Bank-backed "Enhancing Digital Government and Economy (EDGE)" Project, a brainchild of the Bangladesh Computer Council, has been at the forefront of organizing such essential events.

Reiterating the spirit of mutual cooperation and shared vision, BCC Executive Director Ranajit Kumar hailed "Cyber Maitree 2023" as a beacon of collaborative success between the governments of both nations. He confidently asserted that this initiative would be instrumental in capacitating professionals, especially those tasked with the herculean responsibility of safeguarding vital digital infrastructure.

Echoing these sentiments, Senior Director of CERT, S. S. Sarma, spotlighted the escalating cyber threats in today's digitized landscape. Nations, he stressed, are becoming exponentially dependent on the digital realm. This increasing reliance brings with it the potential risks associated with cyber-attacks, making the role of IT professionals more pivotal than ever.

In a world where the boundaries of reality and virtual are blurring, the commitment to ensuring digital safety becomes a paramount concern. The "Cyber Maitree 2023" initiative, a trigger in the evolving digital narrative, is a testament to the vision shared by Bangladesh and India. As both nations navigate the intricate maze of the digital future, their collective endeavors exemplify a proactive approach to championing a secure and inclusive digital environment for all.
