PM Narendra Modi on Sunday held meetings with several global leaders on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi
In his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his concern about continuing anti-India activities of extremists in Canada.
 
“They are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship. The nexus of such forces with organized crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well. It is essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats,” the MEA quoted PM Modi as saying.
 
During the meeting Prime Minister Modi also said that a relationship based on mutual respect and trust is essential for the progress of India-Canada relationship, the MEA said.
 
Prime Minister Modi also met Brazilian President Lula da Silva and discussed ways to strengthen India-Brazil strategic partnership, including cooperation in the field of biofuels, pharmaceuticals, agro-based industries, space and aviation.
 
A joint statement was also issued after the meeting between the leaders of the two countries. “The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the comprehensive reform of the Security Council including its expansion in the permanent and non-permanent categories, with increased representation of developing countries in both, to improve its efficiency, effectiveness, representativeness, and legitimacy in order to better meet contemporary challenges in international peace and security. They reiterated their mutual support for their countries’ permanent membership in an expanded UNSC,” read the joint statement.
 
Prime Minister Modi in his meeting with Comoros President Azali Assoumani discussed ongoing bilateral engagement between the two countries.
 
As per the MEA, the two leaders expressed satisfaction at the numerous initiatives underway, and discussed opportunities for cooperation in areas like maritime security, capacity building and development partnership. The Comoros President, as per the MEA, thanked Prime Minister Modi for his initiative and efforts in making the African Union a permanent member of the G20.
 
During his meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, Prime Minister Modi reviewed progress on various areas of bilateral Special Strategic Partnership, including in trade and investment, defence production, semiconductors and EV battery technology, the MEA said. The South Korean President congratulated Prime Minister Modi on the success of the Chandrayaan mission.
 
On the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Modi also held a meeting with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed and held productive talks on various areas of wide-ranging bilateral cooperation, including in trade and investment, defence, agriculture, millets, financial technology, and capacity building.
 
In his meeting with Prime Minister of the Netherland Mark Rutte, Prime Minister Modi discussed ways to deepen their bilateral partnership, including cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, clean energy and green hydrogen, semiconductors, cyber and digital technology, among others. According to the MEA, the two leaders also discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest.
 
Prime Minister Modi also held a meeting with Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and discussed bilateral cooperation in the areas like trade and investment, defence and security, civil aviation and shipping. As per the MEA, the Turkiye President also thanked India for the prompt relief under ‘Operation Dost’ after the massive earthquake hit the country in February this year.
 
During a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Prime Minister Modi, the two leaders took the opportunity to review progress in their bilateral Strategic Partnership, while discussing ways to deepen cooperation in areas like defence, green and sustainable development, critical minerals, mobility of skilled personnel and education, the MEA maintained.
 
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. The Prime Minister invited Chancellor Scholz to India next year for the next round of Inter-Governmental Consultations, the MEA added.
 
Prime Minister Modi also met Charles Michel, President of the European Council and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. Their discussions focussed on various aspects of the India – EU Strategic Partnership, including the next India - EU Summit, ongoing Free Trade Agreement negotiations, climate change and LiFE, digital technology, and Trade and Technology Council (TTC), the MEA maintained.
