The meeting will focus on financing sustainable cities and exploring infrastructure opportunities
The much-anticipated third meeting of the G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) being held in the picturesque city of Rishikesh, Uttarakhand from June 26-28 will witness brainstorming sessions on developing sustainable and resilient cities.
Being held under the Indian Presidency of G20, this gathering will see the participation of 63 delegates from G20 member countries, invitee countries, and international organizations, all focused on advancing discussions regarding the 2023 Infrastructure Agenda.
The IWG acts as a forum for in-depth debates on all facets of infrastructure spending. Its main goals include creating infrastructure as an asset class, encouraging excellent infrastructure investment, and coming up with creative ways to raise money for such projects. The findings of the Infrastructure Working Group advance infrastructure development and the aims of the G20 Finance Track.
The third IWG meeting will feature substantive progress discussions across various workstreams of the 2023 Infrastructure Agenda. Together with other significant themes, the flagship objective of ‘Financing Cities of Tomorrow: Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable’ will be the main focus of the event.
During the three-day event, delegates will not only engage in official meetings but also immerse themselves in Rishikesh's rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes. To improve the delegates' experience, the Indian authorities have carefully planned a variety of cultural events including an excursion on the afternoon of June 28.
There are two side activities that are also planned in connection with the IWG conference. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and other organizations are teaming together to host the ‘High-Level Seminar on Roadmap to Sustainable Cities’ on June 26. The three sessions of this conference will cover important issues including climate change, infrastructure resiliency, fast urbanization, inclusivity, and the role of technology, Infratech, and digitalization.
The delegates will also gain insights from the launch of NUSANTARA, one of the world's most ambitious new city developments, in Indonesia. Famous specialists from across the world and the United States will also take part in the discussions, enhancing the overall quality of the conversation.
Additionally, there will be a ‘Roundtable on Making India an MRO Hub’ on June 27. The purpose of this roundtable is to examine the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) potential that India has to offer.
The delegates will also have the opportunity of participating in "Ratri Bhoj Par Samvad" (Conversation over Dinner), where they will get the chance to experience Uttarakhand's rich cultural history and delight in regional foods. The delegation will also get the chance to participate in a ‘Yoga Retreat’ on June 26th, 2023, in Rishikesh, the spiritual center and birthplace of yoga.
