India had taken up the UN Security Council’s monthly rotating presidency on December 1, 2022

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj has said that the country’s work at the United Nations will carry on even after India’s UN Security Council's presidency ends through a number of significant bodies addressing crucial issues on which India will continue to speak out.

She was speaking to wire agency ANI on Wednesday about how India will lay out its roadmap for the coming year at the UN. Recalling how successful India’s presidency has been, she said, "As a key troop-contributing country, we will also be actively involved in issues related to peacekeeping. In the course of our December presidency, you would recall the External Affairs Minister had launched a group of friends to ensure accountability for crimes against UN peacekeepers."

"As co-chair of this important group, we will continue to keep the focus on the safety and security of our blue helmets on the ground through sharing of best practices among member states and through guidance to the UN Secretariat," she said.

In a wrap-up briefing for non-members of the Security Council last Thursday regarding its work for the month of December, Ambassador Kamboj had highlighted the full agenda of the UNSC for the month under India's chair.

Speaking further on how India would continue to have a voice at the UN and globally, she emphasized that India has been designated co-chair of the Group of Friends of Landlocked Developing Countries and will assist in directing the roadmap of the assessment of the Vienna Program of Action.

"We are also a recently appointed co-chair to the Group of Friends of Landlocked Developing Countries and will help steer the roadmap of the review of the Vienna Program of Action, culminating in the Third Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries in 2024," she added.

India had a two-year tenure as an elected member of the UN Security Council for 2021–2022, taking up the UNSC's monthly rotating presidency on December 1, 2022. India had also presided over the UNSC in August 2021.
