This was the first foreign office level engagement following the assumption of office by the new government in Colombia

India and Colombia discussed bilateral and international fora during a meeting between top officials from both sides on Friday.

In the first foreign office level engagement between the two countries following the assumption of office by the new government in Colombia, Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, and Francisco Jose Coy Granados, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia, held a bilateral meeting.

"The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed cooperation in international fora. The Colombian side highlighted the priorities of the new government and gave an assessment of the regional situation," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Secretary (East) invited Vice Minister H.E. Mr. Francisco Coy to visit India next year at a mutually convenient date for Foreign Office Consultations.

India and Colombia have amicable and cordial ties. The relations have become stronger and more varied over time, spanning the spheres of politics, business, and culture.

In 1995, a system for foreign office consultations was developed, and the ninth round of foreign office consultations was held on May 7, 2021.

Since 2021, there has been an increase in high-level bilateral interactions between India and Colombia.

After the worldwide oil price drop, bilateral commerce resumed expanding once more in 2017. Bilateral trade increased by more than 50% from the prior fiscal year to reach USD 4.34 billion in 2021–2022.
