Both sides held wide ranging discussions on issues on the UN Security Council agenda

India and Russia have agreed to deepen cooperation on counter terrorism at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The issue was discussed during consultations between the two sides on United Nations and multilateral issues in New Delhi on Thursday. This was the third round of such consultations to be held between both sides this year.

While the Indian side was led by Secretary (West) MEA Sanjay Verma, the Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Vasilyevich Vershinin.

According to the MEA, both sides held wide ranging discussions on issues on the UN Security Council agenda and recent developments.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister congratulated India on its upcoming Presidency of the UN Security Council in December 2022. Secretary (West) briefed the Russian side on India’s priorities during its upcoming Presidency of the UNSC, the MEA added.

The Indian delegation included officials from the MEA. The Russian side also had officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Embassy in New Delhi.

During the visit, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister also called on Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra and briefed him on Russia’s position on UN related issues.
