India and Brazil enjoy warm relations between them; both are members of the BRICS, G4, IBSA and BASIC

Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan will be paying an official visit to Brazil from November 7 - 8.

This will be his first ever visit to Brazil and is part of the high-level exchanges between India and Brazil, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Saturday.

During the visit, MoS Muraleedharan will attend the Solemn Session on 75 years of India’s Independence on November8, 2022, to be held in the Brazilian Parliament (Congresso Nacional), the MEA said.

He will address the congregation of Brazilian Parliamentarians, both from the upper and lower house; representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and International Organizations; representatives of the Brazilian Government and Friends of India, the Ministry added.

Brazil is one of the most important trading partners of India in the entire LAC (Latin America and Caribbean) region. India-Brazil bilateral trade has increased substantially in the last two decades.

In 2021, the total bilateral trade between the two countries increased by 63.5 percent to US $11.53 billion from 2020. With this India became Brazil’s 5th largest trading partner.

Earlier on August 24, India and Brazil held the 8th Brazil-India Joint Commission Meeting (JCM), co-Chaired by Carlos Alberto Franco França, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, and Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister (EAM) of India, was held in Brasilia.

During the meeting EAM Jaishankar recalled the State visit of Jair Bolsonaro to India from 25-27 January 2020 when he was the Chief-Guest for the Republic Day celebrations. The visit outcomes provided the basis for an upgraded engagement between the two nations.

The Strategic Partnership established in 2006 has deepened over the years to cover several sectors. The partnership is based on shared democratic values, a similar global vision, and a commitment to foster economic growth with social inclusion and sustainable development for the welfare of their people.
