India sees the defence sector as an infinite sky of opportunities, Prime Minister Modi said

India has set a target to reach 5 billion dollars (40 thousand crore rupees) of defence exports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Wednesday.

Inaugurating DefExpo 2022 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, he said, "India sees defence sector as an infinite sky of opportunities".

Speaking about the growth of the indigenous defence industry, PM Modi stated that the "new India" is advancing with the "mantra of intent, innovation, and implementation." Until eight years ago, India was acknowledged as the world's largest importer of defense, he said, adding that "New India" showed will and resolve, and "Make in India" is now emerging as a success story in the defence industry.

Prime Minister Modi also announced Mission DefSpace and laid the foundation stone for Gujarat's Deesa airport during the occasion. He said that the forward airforce base will add to the security architecture of the country.

Additionally, he unveiled the HTT-40, an indigenous trainer plane developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

Addressing the gathering, he commented on the planning of the DefExpo2022 and stated that it offers a picture of the "New India" and its potential, adding that it is an amalgamation of the nation's development and states' cooperation.

He also emphasised the uniqueness of this Defexpo edition by stating, "This is the first defence expo where only Indian companies are participating and it features only Made in India equipment."

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction at the favorable reaction from many nations, including 53 African nations, and said, "This relationship between India and Africa is based on time-tested trust that is further deepening and touching new dimensions with the passing of time."

Prime Minister Modi also discussed India's space technology capabilities, saying that these capabilities are redefining what is meant by "India's generous space diplomacy." He further stated that the three services have examined and determined the numerous difficulties facing space technology.
