In light of the ongoing violence against the Indian community in several areas of the United Kingdom, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar voiced his worries about their safety and welfare in a meeting with his British counterpart James Cleverly on Thursday.

EAM Jaishankar, who is on a 10-day official visit to the United States, met his UK counterpart in New York on the sidelines of the 77th UN General Assembly (UNGA) session.

EAM Jaishankar shared information of his meeting with the UK Foreign Secretary on Twitter.

He wrote, "A warm conversation with UK Foreign Secretary @JamesCleverly. Discussed taking forward Roadmap 2030. Appreciate his commitment to deepening our partnership. Our conversation also covered global issues including Indo-Pacific, Ukraine and UNSC matters."

"Shared my concern about the security and welfare of the Indian community in UK. Welcomed his assurances in that regard," he added.

Later, he also chaired the 10th India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Trilateral Ministerial Commission Meeting, where he reviewed the IBSA procedure and acknowledged its accomplishments. He also reaffirmed his support for reformed multilateralism. He posted on Twitter, saying:

"Hosted the 10th India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Trilateral Ministerial Commission Meeting. Reviewed the IBSA process and recognised its activities. Appreciated its promotion of South-South cooperation, including on global and multilateral issues."

He added, "Reiterated commitment to reformed multilateralism. Thank FM Carlos França of Brazil and Minister of Health of South Africa Joe Phaahla for joining. #UNGA"

Ahead of the meeting with the UK foreign secretary, he also held bilateral talks with his counterparts from Bolivia, Norway, and Estonia.
