In recent years, the India-Nepal partnership has witnessed significant growth in all areas of cooperation

Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal will be visiting Indian on September 13-14 at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

On September 13, the Foreign Secretaries will hold discussions on bilateral issues covering the entire range of multifaceted cooperation between India and Nepal, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday.

They will be reviewing the progress on the various initiatives/announcements made during the recent high-level visit of Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepal in April and May this year respectively, the MEA added.

Prime Minister Modi had paid an official visit to Lumbini, Nepal on May 16, 2022 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

India and Nepal signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the visit. The two Prime Ministers also laid the foundation stone for the India International Centre for Buddhist Culture and Heritage in the Lumbini Monastic Zone.

On April 1, 2022, the Prime Minister of Nepal also made his first bilateral visit abroad to India since assuming office in July 2021.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and PM Deuba flagged off the first cross-border passenger train, linking Jaynagar in Bihar with Kurtha in the Himalayan nation, achieving a major milestone in the field of connectivity between the two countries.

Nepal is an important neighbour of India and occupies a special significance in its foreign policy because of its geographic, historical, cultural and economic linkages/ties span centuries. In recent years, the partnership has witnessed significant growth in all areas of cooperation.

High-level visits by senior government officials offer a chance to assess current bilateral relations and expand collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
