The MoU reflects the National Education Policy 2020 which has changed India's educational ecosystem

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministries of Education of the Governments of India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

The MoU aims to promote educational collaboration between the two nations and broaden the interactions and further improve the current educational cooperation between India and the UAE.

An MoU was signed in 2015 with UAE in the field of Education which expired in 2018. In 2019, at a meeting between Education Ministers of the two countries, UAE side proposed to sign a new MoU. The new MoU incorporates changes brought in by the National Education Policy 2020 in India’s education ecosystem, the Ministry of Education said.

The MoU is also intended to encourage information exchange in education, capacity development of TVET teaching staff, and academic collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries for the purpose of offering twinning, joint degree, dual degree programmes, and any other areas as may be mutually agreed upon.

Along with easing information sharing to support mutual recognition of these qualifications, this MoU will revitalise educational collaboration and improve academic mobility between India and the UAE.

Since the UAE is a popular employment destination for Indians, collaboration in TVET is also covered in this MoU.

The MoU will be in effect for five years from the date of execution and will automatically renew with both parties' agreement. The previous MoU with the UAE from 2015 will be replaced by this one once it is signed, at which point it will no longer be in force.
