India and Thailand have signed agreements for cooperation in health and broadcasting

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has held "productive" discussions with his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai on further strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The two discussed advancing bilateral contacts in political, economic, security and defence, connectivity and health domains at the 9th India-Thailand Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in Bangkok on Wednesday.

The meeting was co-chaired by EAM Jaishankar and Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

According to EAM Jaishankar, the discussions at the JCM centred around further strengthening the bilateral relationship. The two ministers also discussed advancing contacts in diverse domains, including political amd economic as well as security and defence.

"Co-chaired 9th India-Thailand Joint Commission Meeting with DPM & FM Don Pramudwinai. Productive conversations to further strengthen our all encompassing bilateral relationship. Discussed advancing contacts in political, economic,security &defence, connectivity & health domains," EAM Jaishankar tweeted.

In another tweet, he gave insights about the other issues that were discussed during meeting. He wrote, "As its neighbors, exchanged views on the situation Myanmar. As also our cooperation within the ASEAN and BIMSTEC. Shared our perspectives on the Indo-Pacific. Agreements signed today on cooperation in Health and Broadcasting will take our ties forward."

They also witnessed the ceremonial signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Thailand and India.

The first one is the MoU on Health and Medical Research Cooperation between the Department of Medical Services of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand and the Indian Council of Medical Research of the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India; the second is the MoU for Cooperation and Collaboration on Broadcasting between Prasar Bharati, India, and the Thai Public Broadcasting Service, Thailand (Thai PBS).

The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen regional and sub-regional cooperation as well as to improve bilateral relations after the COVID-19 pandemic in all areas, including political security, economic connectivity, trade and investment connectivity, social and cultural cooperation, and regional and sub-regional cooperation.

During his visit, EAM Jaishankar also called on Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and conveyed the personal greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They also exchanged perspectives on regional and global developments.

"Privileged to call on Thailand PM Prayut Chan-o-cha during my visit. Conveyed the personal greetings of PM @narendramodi. Benefitted from his guidance on growing our bilateral relationship as we celebrate 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations," EAM Jaishankar tweeted.

"Exchanged perspectives on regional and global developments," he added.
