The Ukraine conflict has serious implications for developing countries

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and exchanged views on the global impact of the Ukraine conflicty, especially on food and energy security.

In a tweet, EAM Jaishankar said that he had a wide ranging discussion with UNSG Antonio Guterres.

“Exchanged views on the global impact of the Ukraine conflict, especially on food and energy security. Implications for developing countries are serious,” his tweet further said.

In another post, he wrote, “Spoke about the latest developments in respect of Afghanistan and Myanmar. Appreciate his interest in working with India to effectively address important contemporary challenges".

Jaishankar arrived in New York on Thursday in the second leg of his visit to the United States. On April 13-14, the External Affairs Minister had attended the India-US 2+2 Ministerial Meeting on Wednesday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present in the meeting with US Secretary of State, Anthony J. Blinken and Secretary of Defence, Lloyd J. Austin III.

Last month, UN Secretary General Guterres had said that he was in close contact with India, China and a number of countries on mediation efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

“I have been in close contact with a number of countries including China, France, Germany, India, Israel and Turkey – on mediation efforts to bring an end to this war,” Guterres had said.
