12 such IT/Hi-Tech Parks are being built in Bangladesh under India’s Line of Credit

The foundation stone laying ceremony for Keraniganj, Dhaka IT/Hi-Tech Park, being built under India’s Line of Credit to Bangladesh was held on Tuesday.

According to a statement by the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, this project is a critical step forward in the India-Bangladesh cooperation in the ICT Sector.

The IT/Hi-Tech Park at Keraniganj is one of 12 such IT/Hi-Tech Parks being built under India’s Line of Credit extended to Bangladesh, it noted.

The ceremony began with the unveiling of a plaque and was followed by planting of saplings by all the dignitaries.

The function was organized by the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) under the aegis of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division of the Government of Bangladesh, the Indian Embassy said.

State Minister for Energy, Power and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid was the Chief Guest for the event and High Commissioner of India Vikram K Doraiswami attended the event as Special Guest. Bangladesh State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was the Chairperson for the event.

The Indian High Commissioner in his remarks highlighted that in terms of value and number of projects, Bangladesh is not only India’s largest development cooperation partner but that this 12 IT/Hi-Tech Park project is also the largest project in the ICT sector of Bangladesh.

This will go a long way in promoting the IT/ITEs industry in Bangladesh, establishing standard IT/ITES/BPO hubs and building capacity in new and emerging technologies like Internet of things, machine learning, robotics, artificial intelligence, extended reality and other advanced subjects.

A skilled labour force will be created which can contribute to greater growth and development, it further said.
These 12 IT/Hi-Tech Parks will also involve construction of Green Buildings, which are energy efficient and environmentally friendly, the Indian Embassy statement informed.

The design has been inspired from the Water Lily, the national flower of Bangladesh.
