Sri Lanka Navy is a member of Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS)

India and Sri Lanka on Thursday concluded the 10th naval staff talks in an attempt to further bolster existing defence relations between India and Sri Lanka in maritime domain.

A tweet in two parts by the Spokesperson of the Indian Navy said, “Towards further bolstering existing defence relations between India and Sri Lanka in maritime domain, 10th Indian Navy – Sri Lanka Navy Stafftalks were conducted from 22 - 24 Mar 22 at New Delhi.”

“The delegations led by Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, Director General Training, Sri Lanka Navy and Rear Admiral J Singh, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (FCI), Indian Navy discussed various issues including increasing cooperation and interoperability between the two navies,” the second part of the tweet said.

The Sri Lanka Navy is a member of Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) and participates in the activities conducted under the IONS construct.

The Indian Navy regularly interacts with Sri Lanka Navy through the medium of Staff Talks, Annual Defence Dialogue and other operational interactions which includes Port visits, Passage Exercises, Training, Hydrography etc.

In addition, both the Navies also participate in events/ fora organised by each other through nomination of personnel/ ships viz. Galle Dialogue, GMC, MILAN.

Earlier this month, the two countries conducted the 9th Edition of the annual Indian Navy – Sri Lanka Navy joint bilateral maritime exercise SLINEX at the Naval Dockyard of Vishakhapatnam and in the Bay of Bengal.
